Happy Earth Day!

In honor of this day reserved for keeping the planet beautiful, and our commitment to making our productions green, I present to you the first video in a series on greening your production.

Get out today and do one thing that will help make the world a little cleaner and in doing so, you’ll be helping future generations enjoy the same beautiful planet we do today.

Best to be polite when you’re on national radio…in a foreign country!

Well if you’ve been following the news for the last 5 days, you’ve probably seen Billy Bob Thorton’s ‘Blow Up’ on CBC’s Q with Jian Ghomeshi.

Well proof that you should be kind to us Canadians came full circle on the HOLLYWOOD ACTOR/SCREENWRITER and apparently  musician.

He was greeted at the intro to his Massey hall show with boos and taunts of “Here comes the gravy”.

Was Booed out of a Baseball game, and then his band “The Boxcutters” (is that a reference to a 911 weapon? how un-appropriate) canceled the rest of their Canadian tour. Apparently some of the members had “The Flu”. More like Canadians were sick of them.

So in the spirit of Jest (and shameless self promotion) I doctored up this video.

Take it with a grain of salt and come be a producer on the film. http://www.mymilliondollarmovie.com

5 steps that could fund your film.

Remember, there are no rules to funding a feature film and creative ways are coming up every day. These steps may help guide you as they have me.

1. GOT TALENT? USE IT. This is a creative business and if you have a hope in hell of being moderately successful, you better be creative. Apply this to your funding methods and you’ll be surprised at how well people respond.

2. DELEGATE. You can’t do everything yourself. Even if you try, it will hurt your efforts.

3. HAVE A SOLID BUSINESS PLAN. No one is simply going to give you the type of money a film requires unless they know you’ve got a plan to make the movie AND distribute it.

4. BE PREPARED TO PITCH . You never know who you’ll wind up talking to so know your sales pitch because you’d be surprised who you’ll be sitting beside in a restaurant, at they gym or on a plane. And pitch someone as aggressively for $100 as you would $100,000. Every penny counts.

5. PERSEVERANCE. This is not a sprint, it’s a marathon and you are going to have to find something that keeps you going. Hopefully it’s your desire to tell the story of your film.

Figure out what works for you, fine tune it and get out there. There is always money for a good project. I hope you find your’s.

Where the Wild Things Are

I know this came out a week back, but I’ve been busy and just had a chance to see it.

This is still one of my favorite stories of all time and I’m so excited that a visionary director like Spike Jonze has brought it to life!

Check it out, the use of Arcade Fire’s “Wake Up” in the trailer is shear brilliance.

this is soooo cool I have to show you.

Now I don’t like to distract people from how cool my project is, but this is one film maker that is doing something NO ONE IS!

Rob Spence is a Toronto Film Maker (funny, so am I) and he has gone his entire career with one eye… that is until now!

Rob, if you’re reading this, I’ll crew for you any day dude. Best of luck!

Frames for Canadian Tire Money?

Seriously, I can become a movie producer with Canadian Tire Money?

Yep, with economic times being a little tough, we’re making it easier for you to participate in the project.

We’re accepting Canadian Tire Money c to purchase frames (which cost $10 each). The money will be used to purchase environmentally friendly products at Canadian Tire for use during the film’s production.

I figure Canadian Tire Money is a great way to for people to become involved mymilliondollarmovie.com. I got the idea knowing that we would need several thousand dollars worth of environmentally friendly products for the production so why not support a Canadian retailer while making good use out of their currency.

Sound good? Email me to find out how you can buy frames and become a producer on mymilliondollarmovie.com with Canadian Tire Money.

My Oscar predictions

Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role

It’s a toss up between these two, but If I was forced to pick, Rourke was pretty Boss.

He had a great speach, but the coolest part is that he recognized Rourke at the end!

Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role

If he doesn’t win, I hope the streets run Red with academy member’s blood!

And the streets are safe… for now. My favorite role of 2008. RIP Heath.

Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role

She’s gong to have a long career so we can count on seeing her again.

Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role

I WAS WRONG _ It went to Penelope Cruz

Everyone should see this movie, it is entertaining and has a very powerful message.

Achievement in Art Direction

Both were amazing so it is hard to decide, but Benjamin really did transport you to that world.

Seriously, the sequences of the kids in the slums is KILLER!!

Achievement in Costume Design

Should I rush out and see The Duchess because it won? Maybe I’ll watch it if I’m ever on a cruise…

Achievement in Directing

This is another hard one (no pun intended harvey) but I did find Slum Dog only slightly more engaging.

And it looks like the academy did too.

Best Documentary Feature

Yes, this movie is THAT GOOD!

Achievement in Film Editing

Maybe I should have just picked Slumdog across the board?!?!?

Honestly, it was the only one I saw in the category.

Achievement in Makeup

I thought Harvey and The Joker were worthy.

Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score)

Music makes this movie.

Bummer, next time little dude.

Best Motion Picture of the Year

Was there ever any doubt?

Achievement in Sound Editing

If Wall-e wins for mixing, I’ll be pissed.

Achievement in Sound Mixing

Well if it had to loose ,Slumdog is the obvious.

Achievement in Visual Effects

Sometimes, the best effects are the ones you don’t notice. They fell in line so well with Fincher’s story telling.

This is my first right pick of the night. A no brainier really.

Original Screenplay

WRONG – It went to the Dude who wrote MILK. He did have an Awesome Speech.

Sports Cars go Green

Just a peak at the new Tesla Model S

Just a peak at the new Tesla Model S

It might be some time before a guy like me can afford one, but just the fact that a company has made the effort, could mean that a more affordable model might be available sooner than we think. Imagine, you could run your car off the light and wind your home captured!!

Tesla Motors won’t unveil the Model S until March 26, but the Silicon Valley start up provided a glimpse of the all-electric four-door sedan with a teaser shot it released this morning.

As for the Model S, Tesla isn’t offering much in the way of details, but Musk has likened the car to a BMW 5-Series or a Cadillac CTS. One insider we know said it will offer the practicality of a 5-series with the sexiness of an Aston Martin Rapide.

From what we see from the photo, the Model S — designed in-house after Tesla’s famous falling out with designer Henrik Fisker — looks like it draws more heavily from, say, Maserati and Aston Martin than BMW. Its also got better front-end proportions than the Fisker Karma sedan, but then Tesla isn’t stuffing a four-cylinder General Motors engine under the hood to serve as a range-extender.

Tesla says the car will go into production in 2011 and it is expected to cost less than $50,000 once you account for the $7,500 federal tax break on electric cars. That’s less than half the price of the Roadster, which goes for $109,000.

I now work for Kevin Smith!!!

Well now you can producer a movie with Kevin Smith. How is this possible you might ask?

One of our producer’s, Amy Decorte, braved the Q&A at the Bloor Cinema on Monday evening with the intent to persuade him to sign up to mymilliondollarmovie.com.
Well first he blasted me for not being there, saying he would have done it if I had come and asked personally. He then went on to advise her that, as a producer, she should have grabbed me by the balls and dragged me down there.
Well this evening, Amy did just that (although at no time did she touch my balls). We watched Dogma, which I hadn’t seen since the first time I saw it in the Theatre and I gotta say, I liked it then and I still like it now.
Amy waited again in line. When she approached the Mic, Kevin recognized her from the night before and he quickly deducted who I was. You could tell he was going to try a get out of it but quickly changed his mind. He dug deep into his pockets and told me that we would get what ever her pulled out.

I was preparing for the inevitable joke. Some lint, gum, a used condom or perhaps some timbits. But to my chagrin, out came three $20 bills!!!

Then the proud moment came when I got to shake his hand and accept the money. i handed off my card and must say, was quite thrilled. I’ve always admired Kevin’s body of work and how he has been able to stay true to himself and tell his stories while competing in the Hollywood machine.

After a beer, I decided to stick around for the final screening of the evening, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.  As I waited in line, I thought about the last 2 years I’ve spent on this project and I have to say, It has all been worth it.

I can’t wait to make this movie and I can’t thank all of you enough for your support.

It’s late now and I really need to get back to another writing gig that is actually paying the bills right now.

What ever it is you’re doing, I wish you the best.

Cheers

Casey

P.S. here is the video version … and Kevin, if you’re reading this, I hope you like the film.
